Tip your hat to the tradition of the Great Lakes – bringing friends and family together in the great Midwestern playground of classic shorelines and awesome views.
The Great Lakes Collection was created by two entrepreneurs in college who wanted to give back by capturing their feelings about the Midwest – days of comfort, time with the people they care about, and a great view or two over a lake – in a classic clothing line.

In the heart of winter, everyone dreams of endless summer nights by the water, sitting lakeside or water sporting under a dusky pink sky. Nautical apparel is next to come to mind, and Great Lakes Collection is all about embodying the Midwestern magic of the region through lake-inspired nautical wear.
Founded last fall, the organization was influenced by southern and East coast companies featuring similar attire. Co-founder David Burke recognized the need for Midwest representation. More importantly, though, was his passion for the lakes themselves and their continued preservation.
Most people probably don’t know that nearly 20% of the earth’s surface fresh water comes from the Great Lakes. Better yet, the Lakes provide drinking water to over 40 million people. The Alliance for the Great Lakes (a Great Lakes Collection partner) is also on the move for creating cleaner, healthier lakes. Great Lakes Collection shares The Alliance’s vision, wanting to better the environment one lake at a time. Together, they hope to work towards lessening everything from pollutants and toxic contaminants to invasive species and wasteful use of water.
Although a new company, Great Lakes Collection has already partnered with Conservation Minnesota and the Alliance for the Great Lakes, both of which host programs for water cleanup, habitat protection, education efforts, and clean energy policies to restore America’s freshwater. With a four-month-old web presence, Great Lakes is now planning on helping its partners (and the lakes) financially by giving a percentage of online sales to the organizations.
Great Lakes’ merchandise is entirely American-made, featuring wholesale American Apparel T-shirts and long-sleeves from L.A., as well as company-customized polos, cut and sewn in San Francisco. Their logo just maximizes their uniqueness. A blue loon graces each Great Lakes product. Co-founder David described the process of choosing their logo design: “They (blue loons) have a very distinct call and when you hear it, you can’t help but look and try to find it. It’s unique and it’s very beautiful, and the logo has a very clean look to it.” Unique, beautiful, and clean – it’s what the Great Lakes are, and what Great Lakes Collection wants them to always be.
